Chorley Photographic Society Take the Title at “Warwick” 2026

Every July, the country’s best camera clubs converge on Warwick School for what club photographers simply call “Warwick”: the PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship. It’s the biggest date in the projected-image calendar, drawing entries from all fifteen of the PAGB’s regional federations, and this year it produced one of the closest finishes in the competition’s recent history.

Chorley Photographic Society were crowned 2026 champions, finishing on 247 points — just one point clear of Rolls-Royce Derby Photographic Society on 246. It’s the kind of margin that comes down to a handful of judges’ marks across the whole day, and it capped a hard-fought, back-and-forth contest that could easily have gone the other way.

About the Championship

For anyone new to the event: each PAGB federation nominates two of its strongest clubs every year, and they’re joined by the previous year’s finalists and Plate winners, drawing entries from among the best photographic societies in the UK. Clubs compete across several rounds of projected digital images — some pre-selected in advance, others drawn on the day from a club’s wider bank of images — with three judges marking each image out of 5, for a maximum of 15 points per image. The leading clubs from the qualifying rounds go through to a deciding Final, where cumulative scores across the rounds settle the placings. Clubs who don’t make the top tier instead contest the Plate, a parallel competition for the rest of the field.

It’s as much a social occasion as a competition — trade stands, a big crowd of club photographers, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere, even for clubs who didn’t qualify this year but came along to watch.

The Final

What makes Chorley’s win especially satisfying is that they didn’t lead from the front — Oldham topped Round 1 and Poulton le Fylde topped Round 2, but neither could sustain that form through to the Final. Chorley’s consistency across the rounds proved decisive, edging out a Rolls-Royce Derby side that has been one of the strongest clubs in the country in recent seasons.

The Plate

For the clubs outside the top tier, the Plate provides its own hard-fought competition and its own bragging rights. Carluke Camera Club took the trophy this year on 99 points, edging out Bridgend and District Camera Club and Colchester Photographic Society.
