Annual Club Competition 2022 – about the judges

Introducing the Judges

When the L&CPU organize the federation competition events, the judges are chosen from other Federations and are PAGB approved judges; as you can see from the details below judges travel some distance to judge our competitions.

I thought you might like to know a little more about our judges for the Annual Club Competition this year.

Stephanie Cook B.Ed, M.Ed, DPAGB APAGB EFIAP/b

Stephanie Cook Photography

Stephanie writes –

it is not until I joined a club as a relative beginner, having dabbled with photography at night school as a teenager, that I really became hooked.  I am based between Leeds and York and have been and still am a committed member of my local club for around 30 years.  After contributing in various guises to the club’s committee for many years I joined the Yorkshire Photographic Federation executive as the Awards Officer, having gained my DPAGB along the way.  Later I became their representative on the PAGB executive.  During my photographic journey I have lectured and judged at local, Federation and National levels.  I like to keep up to date by entering International and National salons and have had many acceptances and awards whilst gaining my AFIAP and EFIAP/b distinctions.  I have photographed a diverse range of subjects and places but my favourite genres are wildlife, sport, travel and portraiture.

Leo Rich ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP/G, HonPAGB

Idle Rich Images: The Idle Rich (leorich.co.uk)

Leo is travelling to meet with us all the way from Salisbury

Leo first became interested in photography when a schoolboy and taught himself how to take, process and print films. When colour film became more readily available, he changed to colour slide work – though does still print, occasionally.

He has been a camera club member for 50 years and is, currently, an Hon. life member of Spectrum (Guernsey) who he represented at the Southern (Counties) Photographic Federation for many years. He has twice been President of that Federation and was their Executive member on the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain where he acted as Secretary to their Awards system. He was President of the PAGB (2013/2015) and, in 2016, was awarded Hon.PAGB for his services to UK club photography.

Leo classes himself as a “jobbing amateur photographer” photographing whatever takes his fancy. In recent years he has shown a special interest in environmental portraiture and natural history subjects, many of which were taken on his Annual visits to India.

He has judged numerous National and International Exhibitions and is also a keen Exhibitor himself with a modicum of success. His “talks” – he hesitates to call them presentations or lectures – are in great demand as they appeal and encourage club members to realise that they do not have to be an expert to produce interesting images.

Throughout his “photographic” journey (including when he was PAGB President) his mantra has been ‘Photography should be fun!’ because he thinks so many photographers take themselves far too seriously.

Eddy Lane ARPS DPAGB EFIAP APAGB

Based in Calne, Wiltshire, Eddy has travelled extensively round the world photographing Wildlife, People and Landscapes.  A busy PAGB and International Salon Judge, Eddy is Past President of the Western Counties Photographic Federation and remains active on the WCPF Executive and the Judges Panel, where he mentors and trains new judges.

A member of the Wiltshire Club ‘Nonpareil’, his portfolio includes Sport and AudioVisual in addition to his passion for the Natural world.  A lover of prints and a contributor to Salons, RPS and PAGB events, he exhibits his work and promotes print competitions in many clubs and other organisations that he visits every year.

His travels with his wife Pam have given Eddy material for the many talks he gives around the UK and Overseas.  These include the Antarctic, the Arctic, India, Kenya and Namibia.  Adventures to Galapagos, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and the South Seas have also provided Eddy with a detailed knowledge of photography from all around the world.

We are looking forward to welcoming Eddy, Stephanie and Leo and I am sure you will all make them feel welcome.
