The Great Northern AV Festival

The Great Northern Festival is a national Audio Visual competition being held from the 30th November – 2nd December at the Hough End Conference Centre situated in South Manchester just off the M60 Manchester Orbital motorway and near the end of the M56.

On the Friday evening we have invited Judith Kimber over from Northern Ireland to give a practical talk and demonstration on ‘Mood and Music’. Judith won last year’s Great Northern with her sequence ‘Matthew Loney’s Miracle’ in which all the music was composed and played by herself.

Saturday and Sunday are our two competition days  – the ‘Great Northern’ competition has Photographic Alliance of Great Britain patronage and as well as medals and ribbons, the top three award winners receive AKM copyright free CD’s and other award winners receive exclusive GNF USB pen drives. All the entrants into this competition also receive the judges ‘A,B,C ‘ mark after the event.

Running in parallel with the ‘Great Northern’ is the ‘New Horizons’ competition – open only to those who have not won an award in any Open National or International Audio Visual competition. The winner receives the L&CPU gold medal and first second and third receive a full version of Pictures to Exe each worth over £100. Additional awards of GNF USB drives are made and all entrants into this competition will receive the judge’s constructive comments after their sequence is shown – plus the judge’s written comments sent to them after the event.

For those wishing to stay over we have negotiated a special upgraded accommodation package with the Britannia Country House Hotel and we have also arranged hot lunchtime meals and a Saturday evening Gala Dinner. These need to be booked before the 1st November.

Day tickets without meals can of course be booked right up to the event.

We had several entries from L&CPU members last year …. and we hope to see them and others at this year’s Festival.

The closing date for entries into the competitions is Sunday 28th October.
