L&CPU Competitions 2023

Did you know ……….
There are four main competitions which are run by the L&CPU Competition Secretary, on behalf of the L&CPU and member clubs within a year.

CompetitionCompetition dates (subject to change)
Annual Club Competition
Usually held the first weekend in March
print & PDI4th & 5th March 2023
Annual Individuals Competition
Usually held the first weekend in May, however, the Kings coronation has meant we have had to move to the next weekend
print & PDI13th & 14th May 2023
The Bob Robinson Trophy (formerly Novice Cup)A4 unmounted print8th October 2023
The Club KnockoutPDI only18th November 2023

Each of these competitions has its own plan outlining what needs to be done to deliver the competition.  This includes such things as booking the venue, arranging the refreshments for the day, contacting and booking the judges, booking accommodation for judges, collecting and engraving the trophies and medals, sending out communications to the Website and Focal Points and especially clubs so they can put together their entry of prints and PDI’s in good time for the competition.

Then there is the setting up of the competition on the portal, follow-up communications, ensuring
judges have the rules ….. and the list goes on and on …

Finally, so there are no last-minute panics, ensuring that the hardware is in place – laptop, projector, print easel, barcode scanner…….

For each competition, we do our best to plan for around 6 weeks from initial notification to the closing date for entries.  This is a timeline which has been used for a number of years and seems to work successfully; however, people will tend to work to the deadline and the bulk of entries are generally made in the final few days leading up to the closing date – which does make it difficult for administration prior to the competition day.

Annual Club Competition 4th & 5th March 2023 (venue to be confirmed)

This is the L&CPU Annual Club event, where all member clubs are invited to showcase their member’s images in two sections:

  • PDI: there are two categories in this section – Open (which includes colour and monochrome) and Nature
  • Prints: there are three categories in this section – Open Colour, Open Monochrome and Nature

The overall winning club will be named Club of the Year and will be awarded The French Cup.
There will be an overall PDI winning club and an overall Print.

This competition is also the L&CPU qualifier for the PAGB Inter-Club Projected Digital Image Championship which is held each July and PAGB Inter-Club Print Competition which is held each October; each Federation nominates two clubs to take part, alongside the finalists from the previous year.

The L&CPU will invite the top two clubs from PDI Club of the Year and Print Club of the Year to represent them in the respective PAGB PDI and Print Championships

If you are interested, you can view previous year’s results at www.thepagb.org.uk – you will see that the L&CPU did very well in 2022.

The rules for our Annual Club Competition will be sent out to your Club Competition Secretaries in the next couple of weeks and the portal will open for entries towards the end of January so you have a few weeks to get your images.

The competition is a 2-day event and is open to all club members to come and take part in the proceedings; view the images and watch the judging on both days. You will see some superb images and meet up with members from other clubs. Even if your club is not able to enter you are still very welcome to come along and watch the proceedings.
