Tickets are now on sale for the L&CPU Novice Cup event, Sunday 10th October 2021, Elmbank Conference Centre, Eccles.

Online tickets priced at £10 are now available at https://lcpu-portal.org for the L&CPU Novice Cup.  Payment is via PayPal.  The ticket price includes lunch (pie and peas plus desert) with tea and coffee in the breaks. Tickets are open to all members of L&CPU clubs.

We have an interesting and exciting day, consisting of:

  • The running of the Novice Cup competition, where each competing club enters six colour and mono monochrome prints, which will be displayed during the day and awards presented in the afternoon.
  • Talks by L&CPU speakers on their photographic journeys. Tony North and Eddie Leach are two L&CPU club members who have recently attained the DPAGB distinction. They will talk about their images and how the L&CPU mentoring scheme helped them to achieve their success. Brianna Gilligan is a young photographer who has achieved success in the L&CPU Young Photographer competition.  She will talk about this and competing against adults in both internal and external club competition, including the L&CPU Annual Club and Individual competitions.
  • David Butler is one of the mentors on the highly successful L&CPU Mentoring Service to support members seeking PAGB accreditations. David will talk about the scheme and the role of the mentor.

Previous information about this year’s event, including the programme, is available on the L&CPU website https://lcpu.org/2021/08/09/lcpu-novice-cup-2021/

There are 100 tickets on sale and we hope that you will come and join us.

About the speakers:

Tony North, DPAGB

The Art of Macro and my journey to my DPAGB.

Tony joined South Manchester Camera Club in 2016, after getting his first DSLR camera. After having some success in club, inter-club and BPE competitions Tony decided to apply for the CPAGB in 2019, and passed with a mix of insect images and landscapes, which also formed the basis for his DPAGB in 2020.  Tony will talk about this journey, showing the images that he entered, and giving my thoughts on the experience as a whole.

Eddie Leach, DPAGB

DPAGB. My journey.

Eddie started his photography journey in July 2014, soon after joining Oldham Photographic Society. In 2018 Eddie was pleased to pass the CPAGB and passed the DPAGB in 2021. Eddies journey through the process has taken him through portrait, composites, sport and nature. This took Eddie outside his comfort zone, to where he believes he can now enjoy a wider range of photographic opportunities.

Brianna Gilligan

Competing against adults

Brianna is a young photographer who took up photography in April 2020 (then 10 years old) and joined Oldham Photographic Society and her images have been used by Oldham PS in external competitions traditionally only entered by adults.

David Butler, MFIAP MPSA ARPS BPE5* Hon LCPU

L&CPU mentor scheme

Dave had his first camera some fifty years ago and has been interested in photography ever since. His main focus has always been on the image and not the equipment, a trend which continues to this day. Having been an image assessor or judge for some thirty-five years or so Dave’s photographic philosophy has remained constant to this idea.
