Today was the first day of the Annual Club Print & Projected Image Competition 2016. By the end of day, Chorley Photographic Society were at the top of the table, leading rival club Wigan 10 by 12 points. Chorley have 323 points, with Wigan 10 on 311, and Alsager CC on 288.

Chorley began the day with a covert operation to secure the best seats, placing their scarves on them, before retiring to the cafe until the hall was officially opened!

The first section was colour open, and this was won by Wigan 10. After a break, we moved on to open mono, which was won by Chorley.

The competition progressed at a rapid pace – driven by the software created by Adrian Lines. As a consequence, we had an extended lunch before moving on to the natural history section.

At the conclusion of this, we had another short break, and the final scores were announced. There was a raucous outburst from the Chorley contingent, who had brought football rattles along on the off-chance. Also, a box of Celebrations, which they shared amongst themselves.

Former editor of this web site, John Royle, said: “Congratulations to all involved in the competition today. The projection was perfect, the computer management of the scorekeeping astounding, the work submitted was a credit to the clubs and the venue excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable day! Thanks to the L& CPU Team.”

Tomorrow is print-judging day, and it’s by no means certain that Chorley will win it. It should be an interesting battle!
